Effective participation,

Our training and advice help participation councils
in Higher Education get the most out of their council year.

Our training and advice helps participatory bodies

Ice, ice, baby!

Due to a complex legal framework and lack of experience, participatory bodies often have a knowledge deficit. With our training sessions, you ensure that you have the necessary expertise at your disposal.

Experience the power of cooperation!

Administrators don't always take participation seriously. We help you establish a fruitful relationship with your administrator. You'll also learn to work better together as a team.

Make your voice heard!

As a participant in participation, you want to represent your constituency as well as possible. That's why our trainings provide you with the tools to do this. This way, you can exert optimal influence on your administration.

... and that training is in principe paid for by your institution . It is therefore free for individual council members.

As a council, you have a legal right to education and training (Article 9.48, third paragraph of the Higher Education and Research Act). The costs for this are covered by the faculty. However, the Higher Education Participation Monitor shows that only 48% of participation councils follow training, and that 33%-49% of council members express a need for more training. Therefore, recent national agreements have been made regarding training opportunities for councils, including the requirement for multiple training moments throughout the academic year. To give this training an extra boost, the Minister has also allocated €11.5 million for this purpose between 2023 and 2025. There are various training agencies for participation councils, such as Klasen Training and Advice. You can request a quote from any provider without obligation. If you don't have your own training budget, it's wise to present this quote to your contact person at the faculty. This way, you can avoid unpleasant discussions with your administrator.

Did you know that as a council, you always have the right to training!

Customized training

We tailor each training based on your preferences, the council's experience, and the specific context at your institution.

Personal contact

Not a large company with impersonal and changing contacts, but year-round contact with the same trainer for all your questions and assistance.

Interactive and with results

Not just listening to boring talks all day, but also getting hands-on. At the end of most training sessions, you also have a concrete piece to work with.

Close to practice

Having recently been involved in both central and decentralized participation, the distance to practice is minimal. The trainer is an expert by experience.

Knowledge and skills

As a council member, you need not only knowledge about your position, but also council skills such as negotiating and collaborating. We offer a mix of modules aimed at both knowledge and skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

The amount of training your council needs depends on your preferences and the intensity of your activities. Some Student Councils, for example, operate full-time, while other Examination Committees only meet four times a year. At Klasen Training and Advice, we recommend at least one full training day per year for smaller councils, especially for new council members. For larger councils, we recommend at least two full training days at the beginning of the year, followed by multiple half-day sessions later in the year (depending on preferences).

The rate depends on the size of the group, the duration of the training, as well as the specific situation. After requesting a quote, you will receive a price estimate. If the group is (much) larger than 12 people, sometimes training sessions last longer, which also increases the price. Apart from training and travel costs, no other expenses will be charged (preparation time is included).

The SER (Social and Economic Council) annually sets a standard amount for participation training (there is no specific education rate). For 2024, this amounts to €1250 per half-day, which is all-inclusive and exclusive of VAT. The prices of Klasen Training and Advice are competitively priced and are below that standard amount.

Trainings are primarily conducted "in-house," which means that as a client, you are responsible for arranging a suitable training location yourself. This can often be easily done in one of your educational spaces. If you're unable to arrange a location yourself, we can also do it for you. However, we advise against this as it always turns out to be expensive.

During a longer training, there is often a lunch or dinner break included. As a client, you are primarily responsible for arranging your own food and drinks during the training. You do not need to arrange food for the trainer. Would you prefer us to provide food and drinks? Inquire about the possibilities.

We kindly ask you to confirm the quotation for a training at least two weeks prior to the training date. Cancellations cannot be made within two weeks of the training date. The date of a training can be rescheduled free of charge up to one week before the scheduled date. For requests to reschedule a training within one week of the scheduled date, we will work together to find a suitable solution. Rescheduling options are subject to the trainer's availability.
